Laser Radial Young Worlds: With an overview of the lead

Late start in Kiel. Until 15:00 the young sailors had to wait in Kiel, before the 365 athletes from 44 nations did go onto the race courses. The wind had increased after the calm in the morning and so two races could be started later on the second day of the Laser Radial Youth Worlds in Kiel-Schilksee. "Fair conditions“, was the summary of Julian Hoffmann (Allgaeu), who is on rank two after four races right in front of the Italian Francesco Viel and behind Ludvig Lindqvist from Sweden.

"We had about 6 to 10 knots and that was great outside", said Hoffmann.  He was  in the top five in both races.  "Except for the first race, where the French Matisse Pacaud was way up front, the fleet was very close together." Julian Hoffmann did want to start free and use the speed and shifting winds for him.  That went well.  "I did not want to take many risks", explained the sailor from Obersdorf.

Ludvig Lindqvist leads after 4 races.

"I like the changing winds", stated Ludvig Lindqvist. The Swedish sailor did sail onto the leading position on Monday. "The races yesterday were better, but I am satisfied with the ones today."

Julia Buesselberg (Berlin) was also content.  "The conditions were difficult, but who was fast, was in a good spot." Good starts, much speed and keep the overview, was the strategy, that proofed to be successful.  After two fourth places on the previous day, she did win a race on the second day and became third in the second race. She is now leading overall.  Behind her are Matilda Talluri from Italy and Ana Moncada Sanchez from Spain.  "I am finding more and more into the regatta", said Buesselberg after four races.

While the wind shifts appeared quickly on Monday, the sailor from Berlin could gently drive into the wind shifts on Tuesday. But the additional kick from the waves was missing.  Who did know well to ride the waves, had an advantage on the day before. That was the strength of Laura Schewe (Kiel) on Monday. But on Tuesday, there was not much left from the waves.  Now the sailor from Altenholz wants to continue with a consistent performance and see, what will be the result in the end. Schewe could not repeat her results from the previous day and was pushed back to rank nine overall. Carlotta Sophie Cruesemann (Kiel) is on rank 20.
